Thanks Everyone!

MR2 went very well, with lots of great agency people and a few business owners stopping by to check out the work. Most (if not all) of our exhibitors felt like they made some solid contacts.

If you'd like to show your work at MR3, likely this April or May, let me know. There are already a few people on the list so it's going to fill up fast as usual.

Thanks to the Modern Bar for letting us take over for a night!

Business Owners: MR2 is for you

When you buy ads for your business, two things are usually true: the deadline is very near, and the company includes graphic design in the price you pay.

Sounds like a good deal, but does it get you the results you want? Not usually. Someone you've never met throws it together after throwing together ads for everyone else who bought space, including your competition.

If you're doing radio, your ad will probably be read by a DJ, which means it'll blend in to everyone else's ads and sound no different from regular program banter. Total waste of money.

So if your 2010 budget includes print ads, billboards, radio, web, bus benches or even simple flyers, make sure you're connected with skilled, affordable talent to help you craft an effective message, do some sweet custom design, help with production or do whatever else is needed to help you stand out.

And if you haven't guessed by now, Market Revival is an excellent place to get started. Stop by, grab a happy hour drink and browse the portfolios of some of the best local talent. We hope to see you there.

Feedback Makes it Better

Feedback after MR1 led to some great ideas, so a few things are happening differently this time around.

• Happy Hour instead of breakfast to appeal to those who don't work downtown
• Modest marketing budget generated through small registration fees for exhibitors
• Special invites extended to small business owners
• Blog started after multiple requests for a web presence

We're also continuing what worked last time:
• Posters and paper invites
• Facebook event and Twitter updates
• Word-of-mouth

Any other ideas? Comment below.

MR1 Recap

Many of you have asked how MR1 turned out, so here's a recap:

Held last September, it was an early morning event - 7:30 AM. Alexander Clark Printing sponsored bagels and coffee, and Cole Marr Gallery Coffee House opened early to accommodate us.

People showed up early, stayed late, and some of our exhibitors landed gigs because of the event. We were very pleased with the results, especially considering it was the first of its kind and there was no marketing budget.

Exhibitors and spectators alike immediately inquired about a second event, so the plan is to continue quarterly.

What is Market Revival?

Market Revival is a quarterly advertising portfolio show in Boise, ID. The only event of its kind, its purpose is to match talented creative professionals with the local businesses and ad agencies who need them.

As the economy begins to improve, agencies and businesses find themselves needing writers, designers, photographers, illustrators, marketing strategists and more, but can't necessarily afford to hire full time. This event is a great place to meet and see the portfolios of established creative professionals available for a wide variety of projects.

For those not looking to hire, Market Revival is still a great place to network, brainstorm, and keep up to date on local marketing and advertising work.
